What we store
When you acknowledge the notice at the bottom of the page, a single entry is saved in your browser's localStorage under the key used by this site. Its only purpose is to stop the notice from reappearing on every visit. It contains no personal identifier, no browsing history, and nothing that could be used to recognize you across other websites. It stays in your browser until you clear your browser storage.
What we do not set

Why the site is built this way
Our customers are organizations, and the people who visit this site are usually researching a service decision rather than being marketed to. Loading a page that quietly follows its visitors would sit badly with the way we work. Building the site without external requests also makes it fast and predictable, which is a benefit in its own right.
Controlling storage in your browser
Every major browser lets you view and clear stored data. In most browsers you will find this under settings related to privacy, site data, or storage. Clearing stored data will remove the acknowledgement you gave, and the notice will appear again on your next visit. You can also browse with storage blocked entirely, and the site will continue to work; the notice will simply reappear each time.
localStorage compared with cookies
Cookies are small files sent with each request to a server. localStorage is a similar store, but it stays in your browser and is not transmitted automatically. We chose localStorage for the acknowledgement preference because it does not travel with requests and cannot be read by other websites. From your point of view the controls are the same: your browser settings decide whether it is kept.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change what this site stores, we will update this page and, where appropriate, ask for your acknowledgement again. Any change will be described here rather than buried in a general update.
We keep this page short on purpose. A policy that takes twenty minutes to read is usually a policy that has something to be vague about. Ours stores one preference and nothing else, and the whole arrangement can be described in a paragraph. If that ever stops being true, the paragraph will grow and this page will say so plainly, with the reason attached.
